Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
Hello,
do you know about any tool which could manage to translate text in following adventure series:
http://www.gametap.com/grimm/
http://www.telltalegames.com/ (Strong Bad, Sam and Max)
Or is there anybody who could try to find text in these games?
Thank you very much.

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
There is new game from TellTale. Any chance that anybody could extract it (and find translation)?
Thank you very much...

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
GameTap data is encrypted filesystem of original game data, I wouldn't bother. For non-GameTap data, I'll take a look within a week or two (I have a few TellTale games on Steam).

Don't ask me about localization tools; if you don't have the resources to develop them yourself you don't need them.

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
I have figured the algorithm and partially the file format (the folder names exist but don't seem used, mah).
practically it works like an encrypted and compressed file system composed by chunks of 65536 bytes encrypted with blowfish and the key "\x96\xCA\x99\xA0\x85\xCF\x98\x8A\xE4\xDB\xE2\xCD\xA6\xA9\xB8\xC4\xD8\x81\x8E\xE3\xA9\xD6\x99\xD4\xAC\x93\xDE\xC2\xA2\xE0\xA5\x99\xCC\xB4\x89\xB0\xCD\xCF\x9A\xCF\xDA\xBB\xEA\xDB\xA4\x9B\xC6\xB3\xAA\xD0\x95\x8A\xD1\xDE\xAB".
although it's not a so nice format to handle with a script (the best solution in this case is a stand-alone extractor) I have found a way for using QuickBMS with it, I will release the script tomorrow with a new version of the tool.
anyway it's necessary to test other games for making the script compatible with any other game which supports the TTARCH format (I guess that the first thing which changes is the blowfish key)

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
released script and new version of QuickBMS (necessary):
http://aluigi.org/papers/bms/ttarch.bms
http://aluigi.org/papers.htm#quickbms
each game uses a different key for the blowfish encryption so the script must be edited manually for specifying the correct key.
I downloaded some demos and collected their keys (don't worry it's just a matter of some seconds):
. Episode 4 - Daneresque 3
. Wallace & Gromit: Grand Adventure
. Out From Boneville
. Telltale Texas Hold'em
. Sam & Max: Episode 205 - What's New, Beelzebub
. Sam & Max: Episode 101 - Culture Shock
. Episode 2 - Strong Badia the Free
. Sam & Max: Episode 103 - The Mole, The Mob, and the Meatball
. Homestar: Episode 5 - 8-Bit Is Enough
. Sam & Max: Episode 201 - Ice Station Santa
. CSI-Hard Evidence
the script supports various versions and types of name tables and files.
hope it helps.

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
BMS script works perfectly!
I tried Sam and Max 101 and found some files which could contain text for translation.
But these files are probably compiled or encrypted. I did not find the way to handle them.
I know that it is not probably problem of extraction, but there were tools to translate these games. Do you have anybody any ideas?
There is old Telltale LangDB Editor (does not work with this game) - http://quick.mixnmojo.com/readmes/Tellt ... ditor.html
And is it possible to re-create .ttarch file? There was also old tool - http://quick.mixnmojo.com/readmes/Tellt ... eator.html
Thank you very much for your help...

eh no, unfortunately was an error of mine in the script.
I have updated the script immediately (note the version 0.1.1 in it), sorry

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
Thank you very much, now I can see text strings in .langdb file.
Is it possible to simply edit .langdb file?
Is it possible to re-create .ttarch archive?
There were old tools, but they do not support newest games. I think that there is problem with different key for the blowfish encryption.
Also after extraction, maybe different extracted files should be stored in different subdirectories (I thought it in some files), like "include", etc?

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
I can't help with the rebuilding or the editing of the extracted files
*EDIT*: note that the ttarch.bms script is still a work-in-progress so are needed beta testers who report ANY error!

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
that bms script was only a beta experiment, now the complete project is called ttarchext:
http://aluigi.org/papers.htm#ttarchext
in the new 0.1.2 version I have added support for the new format used in Tales of Monkey Island (version 7, a customized blowfish encryption) just after its release this night :)

Re: Telltale and Gametap - extract to translate
Did you somebody manage to make a translation?
When you extract any game, there is english.langdb file. I can see english sentences in this file, but I was not successfull in preparing any tool to translate and use these texts. There were LangDB Editor, but it is outdated for new games. And it should not be hard task, because texts are visible for example in TC...
Could you please test it somebody?

Hi, I am from a group that is translating the Season 1 and 2 of Sam & Max. We already make the translation but we don't know how to recreate the .TTARCH with the translation. I tried with the TTARCH CREATOR but doesn't work. Can somebody help us? We have a lot of work, just need to do only one thing to release the translation.
Sorry about the english
