Dead Space 1/2/3 .sbk file (PC)
Dead Space stores big audio files as separate .exa.snu files in first two .DAT archives. These can be converted with towav or "ealayer3 -i 32", depending on the format.
But thousands of small sound are stored in many .sbk files across all other .DAT archives. These are all generic sounds: Isaac's steps, gunshots, interface, costume, necromorphs, etc. There are hundreds of .sbk files in the game, one for each kind of enemy, npc, weapon, level and sublevel. So many sounds duplicate.
Here's a simple tool written on c# that will extract all sounds from .sbk. Enjoy.
Extracted sounds can be converted to mp3 with ealayer3.
This one works with DS1 & DS2.
To extract all sounds from the game you need to follow the steps:
step 1 - unpack .dat files
step 2 - unpack .str files that have sfx in them
step 3 - unpack .sbk files with this tool
step 4 - use ealayer3 or Xas_decode to decode them

Re: Dead Space 2 .sbk file (PC)
Here's the version for DS3.
The files extracted can only be converted with my new version of Ealayer3 that you can find here: viewtopic.php?p=104766#p104766
This is because they are version 7 with header B, which was not supported before.
It will not work correctly with DS2. I will try to make universal version later, but for now, please use corresponding versions.

For DS1 you need Xas_decode (latest version here viewtopic.php?p=107650#p107650)
For DS3 you need new version Ealayer3 as said above.

Re: Dead Space 1/2/3 .sbk file (PC)
I want to extract the sfx out of the str files but I can't find Gibbed tools anywhere. Someone wants to send me a link?

Re: Dead Space 1/2/3 .sbk file (PC)
I hate to be the guy that necro's a post, and I apologize. I have spent hours trying to piece together everything from getting Gibbed.Visceral tools to work, all the way up to extracting files and converting them. I have exhausted my searches to the point that I'm necroing this post. Again, I apologize, but I have some questions.
I've been able to convert most of the .exa.snu files from .DAT0 and .DAT1 from Dead Space 2. My entire reason for wanting to rip these sounds is because I want to sample Nicole's audio. When I extracted her Dementia .snu files, I am completely unable to convert them. TOWav cannot convert them. It's as if they don't exist or are readable, and EALayer3 says they are not a readable format, too. I am at a loss as to what I should do next. I don't know if her dialogue for what I'm looking for is even in these files, and aren't sure where I'd find her final boss dialogue, but I'm learning and I'm hoping someone could help me with this. I'm mostly looking for her "MAKE US WHOLE" line, but getting everything from the game files would be fantastic as well.
Also, is there a genuine tutorial for all of this stuff? There needs to be a megathread where it covers compiling Rick's tools, all the way up to extracting everything, because some of this is super confusing to people who want the sounds, but don't understand the technical stuff to obtain binaries and everything else.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help.
Edit: I'm tired and forgot a couple details. Namely mentioning TOWav didn't work and that I'm trying to extract DS2 sounds.
