XMA 360 file format?

Post by OrangeC » Mon Apr 21, 2008 7:10 am

Now this is a tricky format although if you have the 360 XDK kit it be easy to decode to PCM, we need this tool XMAencode.exe, but you need a microsoft dev license to play/convert them.

In june the latest version of xaudio2 states that XMA will be playable on windows, if true it be awesome!! but until now i will include a sample of it for futher analyses.

Here is an XMA file from the game the darkness.

Yes there is no tool to convert xma :( except XACT... which is able to encode xma... into wave banks of course.
I made a xwb unpacker for latest XACT banks,I added also adpcm decoding but xma is much harder to implement,so I'm looking for decoder too... I did some of "research" on XACT but without knowledge of WMA Pro its useless...

Maybe somebody will be able to do a decoder :( I have no time for this atm...

I have one request for you :) Can you please upload more xma files ??? similar for first one ? Maybe I'll be able to find xma structure....

I don't think a PC game uses XMA.

Yup it is great news. All we need now is a scanner that'll extract the xma's from various 360 archives and we're good to go. ;)

Could anyone find out the actual format? I'm really curious how they did it. I don't speak or understand any Russian.
And I said, "The well has finally run dry." So then that will be my battle cry.

uhmmm why not trying the xWMAEncode.exe utility which comes in the DirectX SDK?
it allows to encode and decode the xma files as far as I have seen and tested (quick test, so I could be wrong)

*ps*: anyway for who is interested towav uses the libraries of Microsoft

Why don't you ask the author? Maybe he gives you some details.

Well, I would like to, but the entire site is in Russian. I can use Google translate, but I don't like it very much. I don't see Xplorer's e-mail address directly on the site, either. Well, anyways, I'll try that utility from the DX SDK.
