Media Station CXT files
Hi all, Media Station, the company responsible for most Disney Animated Storybooks (and, ironically, one Living Book), had a game engine that relied on files ending with a .CXT extension. I always "love" it when companies use existing file extensions for their own proprietary file formats,...

Re: Davidson & Associates .res files
Well, it's been a long time since I've added anything of substance to this post. But, I now know what the "Rectlist" files are, and why they are shown to be two bytes larger than they really are in the version 3 Info header. I'll start with what they are. "Rect" is short for &quo...

Re: Knowledge Adventure .bal files
Hello everyone, I'm sorry that I haven't updated this post here. There is a QuickBMS script created by ALuigi which is able to extract all of the files from BAL archives. I'm still uncertain about the structure of some of the files contained within those archives, but this is certainly a start! The ...

The Learning Company *.bul files
Hi all, Some games which were released by The Learning Company in the 2000's (following the disastrous Mattel ordeal) have their resources in files with the .bul extension. I've determined the format to be: time_t {4} - archive modified date (+12 hours) // for each file string - name of file byte {x...

Re: Knowledge Adventure .bal files
Hi all. It's been a long time, but I've figured out the structure. // for each directory uint32 {4} - number of entries // for each entry uint32 {4} - offset of file or directory name (relative to first entry in name table) uint32 {4} - offset of file or directory uint32 {4} - size of file or direct...

Re: Knowledge Adventure .bal files
Yes I did. It doesn't sound like anything. Clearly it's supposed to be a sound file (the header is "KA Sound File", for crying out loud), so I'm guessing it's some kind of encoding/compression.Puterboy1 wrote:Did you try Audacity for the .SND files?

Data Design Interactive .WAD Files
Hey guys. I'm very frustrated in my attempts to extract files from Data Design Interactive *.wad files. On the wiki, this would be London Taxi Rushour . There seems to be some stuff that's not listed in the article, but which should be. Also, Game Extractor technically "supports" the files...

Re: Knowledge Adventure .bal files
Took me long enough, but here's what I've figured out so far: uint32 {4} - number of files (+2) byte {8} - padding uint32 {4} - archive size (-4) uint32 {4} - unknown (0x8000) byte {4} - padding uint32 {4} - unknown (2) byte {8} - padding (if divided into two ints, -1 followed by 0) uint32 {4} - unk...

Re: Mr. Potato Head Activity Pack: .SND and .PIC
...Okay, sorry, I just now realized that the .PIC files are the same format as MMP MMFW, but with a different extension. Still, the .SND files are different too, and such file does not appear to be on the wiki. Also, Game Extractor doesn't support these files.

Re: Mr. Potato Head Activity Pack: .SND and .PIC
Hmm... Taking a closer look at this, I think the .PIC files have a slightly different structure than the .SND files. That last table of "unknowns" seems to be preceded by null padding for the .PIC files.

Mr. Potato Head Activity Pack: .SND and .PIC
Hi again. Another edutainment game here, this one from Hasbro Interactive. Feel free to follow along, as always. Link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/4whtaoy8mnt322n/POTATO.zip?dl=0 Byte order is big-endian. Here is the structure: // header char{16} - ID string: "MMFW [types]" // [types] can be...

The Yukon Trail: YUKONRES
More edutainment games! This one is a bit more complicated. While I have mostly figured out the structure for this file, there are still a few unknowns. Also, the file has no extension, and the header contains no ID string, so... that kind of sucks. Also, the byte order is big-endian. Yaaaaay... As ...

Re: Davidson & Associates .res files
Still version 2 xD. Are you sure? I just tried extracting the zip files; you were right about the first one still being version 2, but the second time I'm 100% positive I put the version 3 file in. Screw it, I'll just link to the .res file directly: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dv2rbzdlh3f1lxk/i%20loo...

Dropbox link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0qx9g96j2vok0sq/more%20res%20examples.zip?dl=0 This zip file contains an updated version of E2CD.RES (version 3 with names), as well as SBJR.RES and SBJRMMX.RES, which are version 4, but... the structure is almost exactly the same as version 2, with one annoyi...
