Help with SQX files from KGB / Conspiracy
Hi! I'm currently trying to reverse engineer the music from Cryo Interactive's 1992 game KGB, re-released as Conspiracy. In order to get to the music files, I have to decompress the files first. The game uses a compression algorithm called SQX, that's exclusive to this game. What's important is that...

Re: MegaRace Music Modules for Adlib (*.sdb)
Well, it only took 4 years but I was able to reverse engineer the majority of this music format. I even wrote a new song and injected it into MegaRace, which is something I don't think anyone has done before. The music data is basically MIDI but there's a couple of differences. For example, the Note...

Re: Metroid Prime .AGSC sound files/archives
So I messed around with AGSC a little bit more and I found three interesting files that may help us decipher what's going on with the file format Here's a test AGSC that's nice and short: 1ee1ad21.AGSC Offset(h) 00 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 0A 0B 0C 0D 0E 0F 00000000 00 00 00 01 54 65 73 74 00 02 C...

Re: Metroid Prime .AGSC sound files/archives
Okay, so I did some more digging around and I found that the sounds are 22050 hz and in mono, the sounds are definitely ADPCM/DSP encoded, and there's four distinct chunks in the audio files. The first chunk is the header and Sound Table, that lists all the sounds that are in the AGSC file. There's ...

Re: Metroid Prime .AGSC sound files/archives
Glad to see more interest in this file format as I would really love to work with the Metroid Prime sound files. I remember seeing some small some files in the AudioGrp.pak who's file extensions look similar and maybe related to AGSC; I think they were called *.atbl or something like that. Maybe a t...

Re: MegaRace Sprites
I don't know if this is the complete sprite but it's the closest I could get to seeing the full explosion in-game. I'm assuming that the actual explosion sprite is cropped off intentionally since the explosion is being animated by the game to move out of view during a race. Anyways, enjoy! :) http:/...

Re: MegaRace Sprites
Just curious, is there a generic LZ77 or RLE decompressor that I can load these sprite files into? It seems that a lot of this data is compressed and if I can find a way to decompress it, that will help out a lot.

Re: MegaRace Sprites
Having said all that, I don't really have the time to look into your sample files at the present time, as I'm overwhelmingly bogged-down with work & what-not else. I remember following that Dune-Revival project thread with enthusiasm a while back, though. As I'm sure you must have, too  C...

Any advice guys? Are there any other programs I can open this file up in and do stuff like GGD?

Re: MegaRace Sprites
Just wanted to let you know that HSQ compression is, I believe, based off of the LZ77 algorithm. There maybe some RLE compression in the sprite file, but I'm not entirely sure. I also read somewhere that the palette color data maybe in 6-bits...If so, is there a sprite viewer that can let me view th...

Re: MegaRace Sprites
Sure thing! Here's an HSQ file:WRS wrote:can you send a HSQ sample?

And here's the uncompressed file that was inside of the HSQ file; the sprite data:

MegaRace Sprites
Hi everyone, I'm trying figure out how to properly view the sprites in MegaRace. I got the sprites via extracting various HSQ files from Game Extractor and then decompressing those HSQ files using Bigs' unHSQ decompressor. Once the file has been decompressed, I load the file into GGD and was able to...

MegaRace Music Modules for Adlib (*.sdb)
Hi guys, I've been messing around with MegaRace's files for a long time and I would love to get some help on viewing them outside of the game. The first thing I did was extract the files from inside the MEGARACE.DAT file on the CD using Game Extractor. Then I found a file called NEWSAN.hsq; HSQ is C...
