I have found several blocks of letters, I think these are part of the face indices, but I'm not 100%. They start at 00007522. as word indices it gives this: 80 69 100 87 1 1802 11265 225 604 So it's very unlikely that it's FIs. Divide the file up into sections with similar data, search for patterns...

mariokart64n is one of the best 3D experts, especially for scripts, I know.
So this should be a very good start (didn't check the videos , though).

I don't see where the problem should be - File/SaveAs mesh results in an obj file (controller.64_Front_Case.64_Front_Case_0.obj) which can be imported into blender for example:

why do I feel you don't answer my questions? To be honest I don't believe that you really tried to get a skeleton seriously. Did you ever create a maxscript for a simple skeleton? Guess, you did not. You should tell where you got stuck with the tutorial so that I can improve it. There is no general recipe how to get the vertices, even for simple models. For the face indices (FIs) the rule is: search for a scrambled alphabet. Problem is: not every scrambled alphabet you find in 3D data represents...

I don't have maya, but what I don't get: why don't you mirror the mesh in maya to get it matched to the skeleton again?
