Yes, TrID scans the first 2k of a file, comparing it with known headers, and is very useful for figuring out what to use to open a given file. I don't think they can be merged... unless you want to break out a hex editor, it would require using the MexScriptor program, which does not currently support the new .mrf format, which the latest release of MexCom uses.

Other file support

Something that's been bugging me for awhile, is it possible to write plugins for MexCom that allow it to read and display pure data files? Or will it only support archives?

Nice, not trying to be picky, but could you make it in some other sizes? I'd like a modified version to put on my site (click the image in my sig), and it's going underneath the nav bar to the left (once you get past the index page).
