Re: PC Game Piracy Article
http://www.tweakguides.com/Piracy_1.html A very long but interesting article on PC game piracy and DRM. I'd recommend reading all of it. And yes, it is the same one that was mentioned on Slashdot a couple days ago. Piracy has never destroyed works. Mostly (MOSTLY) the pirated content will be replac...

Re: Mirror's Edge
So, is this a rail-shooter type of thing, or are you free to go wherever you wish to go? Graphics look good. You're free to go wherever, but the level design is rather linear... You have one main path to take, but you can go any number of routes along that path, depending on the objects around you ...

Re: XeNTaX attacked by virus
Same on Google Chrome. I suspect the browser vendors are much slower to remove attack sites from their blacklists than they are to add them (a policy that makes a lot of sense from a security standpoint, regardless of whether it irritates webmasters of infected sites).

Zoo Tycoon savegames
I've been having fun with this; see Zoo (Zoo Tycoon) on the wiki for what I have so far (and if you're aware of any other documentation or any savegame editors, I'd appreciate links
).

Re: .wft encrypted/compressed files
Perhaps it would simply be better to be sure to document these formats as quickly and thoroughly as possible on the wiki, and if anyone comes by looking for info on a format we've already cracked, point them to the wiki and ignore any other requests they may have (and if they're looking specifically...

Re: Carnivores 2 CD *.cab
Never mind - these are InstallShield CAB files, which I was able to extract using the excellent Universal Extractor (did anyone else here know about this particular extractor before?).

Re: Carnivores 2 CD *.cab
Now that I checked, the install disk for Carnivores has three CAB files with the same names as their C2 counterparts; _sys1.cab (which I've also attached here for an extra sample) is 178 kb, _user1.cab is 2013 kb, and data1.cab is 46314 kb. I would assume, based on this, that Carnivores Ice Age's CD...

Carnivores 2 CD *.cab
Anyone care to have a look at this? There are three CAB files on the Carnivores 2 CD: _sys1.cab, which is 172 kb; _user1.cab, which is 4963 kb; and data1.cab, which is 74915 kb (you can guess which one I'm *really* interested in). I've attached _sys1.cab to my post, let me know if you want more samp...

Re: video game
I don't think there's much to do in game design unless you're a programmer, graphic designer/artist, or PR specialist. In all three cases, your best bet is to go to school and to establish and foster connections with absolutely everyone and anyone in the industry that you possibly can.

Re: XeNTaX attacked by virus
I don't think there was a virus that is downloaded on your PC. It's more likely a session/cookie stealer or something. Anyway, if someone can provide me with a sample (exe, dll, ocx, sys, etc.) i'll be happy to reverse engineer it (that's my main hobby these days ;)). It was almost certainly Gumblar ,...
