The good news is that I'm able to uncompress the data. The less good news is that I still don't know what is the original algorithm. So how we can implement the decompression in your program? It requires at least an external dll containing the ripped code. If for you is too much problematic I can w...

That's actually the id Software PACK format. See how all those games that use the Quake 2 engine are in there? It comes as a surprise to me now that the Skisprung game is also in the list. If true, then the Skisprung game used the id Software .PAK format. These are NOT compressed.

Hehe...yes, we ARE so curious, because it is annoying when even just one file out of many does not "compute" ;)

Thanks by the way on the update that the script works with other .pak files. I just tried the balance.pak file, didn't have time to get the game or a demo somewhere. :D

Hmm, no, I don't think that's the one. I only found some two novel functions in there:

SHGetFolderPathA
SHGetFolderPathW

They don't look like having anything to do with compression. :(

I don't know the old compression, I haven't dealt with these RTL game files before. Do your know the compression of the old RTL games PACK format?

Okay, another one. What type of compression is used in the balance.pak file in this thread? viewtopic.php?t=1612 I've written MultiEx Commander support, but it will only extract the resources still compressed.

Okay,I've written a script for it. Unfortunately, it will extract the files in compressed state. I have not figured out what type of compression they used, might be an altered zip method. Here's what MultiEx Com gives as specifications: // MexCom - Recreation of pak.bms // THIS IS AN AUTOMATED SPECI...

I have tried and failed to get to grips with the Nomad Soul audio format too in the past. It's a shame.

Excellent stuff, Bugtest! Thanks for joining the team at the WIKI!

Nice idea about the Encryption thread, you want to start one in Code Talk? I think the WIKI could also have a separate section for that.

OK, I haven't any experience in Python, perhaps Rahly or Captain can take a look at it.

Your best bet would be to hack the executable. Load it up in some DASM and locate the ASM hash method.
